IELTS
IELTS (International English Language Testing system) is a worldwide accepted English proficiency test which is an exalted way of determining your competence in four major modules: Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking. It is the gold-standard for the majority of Universities and Colleges around the world as criteria for enrolment. It is also the most effective proficiency test if you wish to immigrate to another country.
IELTS for Study
In case one shows an interest in studying overseas, they must bear in mind that majority of universities and all the universities and schools in UK accept IELTS Test Results. Tier 4 student visa applicants can apply to universities in the UK if they had taken IELTS test from one of any of our 1,000 IELTS test locations worldwide.
As a student who aspires to study abroad, you will need to demonstrate that you are qualified and can successfully complete a degree programme which is of English medium. You will required to achieve respectable IELTS scores to get enrolled in advanced degree programmes e.g. Masters & PhDs.
IELTS for work
If you wish to work abroad, you will have to provide a proof of your Language proficiency. It is a crucial step in obtaining a Work VISA. Communication skills are key to a successful career. It is the most valuable asset when it comes to the requirements of a job. If you plan to apply for a work VISA, you must either be a ‘competent’ English speaker in IELTS or you must have ‘vocational’ English skills. This means that your English skills should be above ‘basic’.
- For UK, IELTS test-takers should at least score 6.5 bands out of 9 in all 4 modules (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) in order to be eligible for admissions.
- In case of Australia, a band score of 5 is considered ‘Vocational’ level English. Moreover, a band score of 6 means you are a ‘Competent’ English Speaker.
- New Zealand applicants must gain an overall band score of 4 or higher in IELTS General or Academic module. They can also provide a proof of their English abilities in the form of their travel history, their country of residence or their family’s knowledge of English.
- For applying in Canada, the applicants should check directly with the institution they wish to join for its IELTS Score requirements. Employers and Colleges/Universities usually have their own language requirements.
IELTS for immigration
IELTS is used by government agencies as a part of their application process to obtain citizenship or PR. Language proficiency is strongly associated with people’s ability to become part of a community and the workplace. Immigration authorities accept the IELTS exam and this exam continues to play an important role in using the language assessment as a means to regulate the number of immigrants.
What are British council and idp?
IELTS is co-owned by both British Council and IDP along with Cambridge English Language Assessment. British Council and IDP conduct all the tests and these are compiled by their root university i.e. Cambridge University. In 1989, a partnership between the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, the British Council and IDP was formed to regulate and develop the IELTS.
British council: The British Council is an international organization headquartered in the UK for cultural relations and educational opportunities.
